For Kids aged 9-12

Do you know a young bookworm who is aged 9-12?

We have a magical experience waiting for them!

The Rebel Readers Alliance is an online book club which offers a safe, inclusive space for kids aged 9-12 from around Australia (and the world!) where we can

  • Dive into stories
  • Explore ideas
  • Delve into some of the common experiences of the tween years (friendships, belonging, confidence)
  • Safely connect with other kids (outside the usual bubble of school)
  • Have lots of fun!

for Tweens & teens aged 12-14

Starting high school is tough.  New friends. New teachers. More homework. It can all feel a little overwhelming.

That's where The Wild Readers comes in.

The Wild Readers is a safe, inclusive more-than-a-book club  for readers, thinkers & dreamers aged 12-14.

Not only will we be reading an amazing book together each month, but our members will have access to online resources such as cooking classes, meditation and yoga, and special guest appearances throughout the year.

Our intention is to provide your 12-14 year old with a safe, inclusive space outside of school as well as a bit of emotional scaffolding as they start their high school journey.

for teens aged 15+

The Midnight Readers is an online book club for older teens aged 15 + offering them a break from the demands of high school into the pages of fresh, engaging stories.

Members of the Midnight Readers get to escape into the pages of hand-picked YA (young adult) stories which deal with themes of teenage love, loss, navigating friendships and discovering who we are and where we’re going.

This is a book club created especially for teens aged 15 and over and aims to provide them with a break from the demands and pressures of the senior high school years.

for Grown-ups of any age

ABOUT JANE SULLIVAN

When Jane Sullivan isn’t spending time with her four young sons or working on her online English tutoring business Scholarly, you’ll probably find her with her nose between the pages of a book. She was the kid who loved reading so much that she would regularly be found with flashlight in hand, way past bedtime, burrowed beneath her doona with the latest page-turner. (I’m sure many of you can relate!) Of course, there was little doubt she would grow up to be an English teacher and make it her life’s mission to foster a love of reading and literature in young people. Don’t ask her how many book clubs she’s been a member of over the years, she’s lost count! She’s even spent the last 5 years running a variety of kids, teens and teachers book clubs at her favourite independent bookstore. Jane’s thrilled to bring her unique blend of biblio-zest (her word) and literary nous to the Rebel Readers Alliance, The Wild Readers, The Midnight Readers, and Birds of a Feather.

ABOUT REBECCA SPARROW

Rebecca Sparrow is the best-selling author of six books including The Girl Most Likely, The Year Nick McGowan Came To Stay and her best-selling book for teens Find Your Tribe (and nine other things I wish I'd known in high school).

For the past 20 years Bec has worked with thousands of tweens and teens helping them navigate the sometimes smooth and sometimes rocky seas of adolescence.

In 2024 Bec was named as the host of the ABC's Parental As Anything Teens podcast. She's also an ambassador for The Lady Musgrave Trust which provides practical support to young woman fleeing violence and at risk of homelessness.

Most importantly, Bec loves books. There are wonky piles of books all through Bec's house - on shelves, in hallways, under cupboards and beds and on the kitchen table. Bec truly believes that a great book can change your life and it's her mission to get everyone reading more.

Bec lives in Brisbane with her husband and three kids and two rambunctious Labradoodles, Reuben and Wanda. Her favourite books are Charlotte's Web by E.B White, Little Women Louisa May Alcott, Melancholy and Bright by Kylie Johnson and The Mother In Law by Sally Hepworth.

What our members say...

“I love the Rebel Readers Alliance because it is not only an excuse to get more books but to talk about the love of books without worrying about being judged.

I love being able to share my feeling and emotions about all of these amazing books Jane has picked out for us and having fun chatting on our monthly zooms.

Reading allows me to relax and enter another world while also learning important life lessons. Books also give us insight on what we have never experienced or even known about.

I think Rebel Readers Alliance is an amazing community to be a part of. Rebel Readers have inspired me to even start writing my own books which I think is so cool.
